Painting Upholstery: A Tutorial on How to Use Annie Sloan Chalk Paint on Fabric

How to Paint on Fabric to Transform Upholstery

I had to give this a try…been reading about it so much on different blogs. I watched Annie Sloan’s YouTube video on the subject, read some other tutorials as well (11 Magnolia Lane  ) and I just decided that I would just jump in and see what happens to a loveseat that I had purchased a few years ago that had seen better days.

Of course, I started with something “big” instead of a small seat cover – that’s my nature…just go for broke. The worst thing that could happen would be that it looked terrible and I’d have to scrap it or bite the bullet and get it reupholstered. (more…)

The Custom Blue Chalk Painted and Stenciled Coffee Table

Louis Blue Chalk Painted and stenciled coffee table

I finally finished a coffee table I had been working on for a while. I didn’t want to post it until I figured out how to tame the super shine I was getting from the wax I put on the table.  I figured it out soon enough…made the necessary adjustments (not hard – a little more sanding back) and it’s a beautiful finished table. A Revamped Chair and a Rescued Paint Job!

Revamping an Old Vintage Chair with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint

Just a little post this morning about a recent chair revamp that I did. I was late in getting this up because something was awry with WordPress or the server – I don’t know which!  But miraculously, all is well this morning.

The Union Jack Coffee Table: Part 1

I have always wanted to create a furniture piece that featured the Union Jack design. What kept me from doing it is my fear of taping.  I hate to tape stuff – I am much more of a freestyle decorative painter – so I have postponed doing this design.  I also am not very good at it – measuring etc.  It’s not my cup of tea.

But, I received a free drop leaf coffee table a few months ago and I thought and thought about what I would do with it.  The Union Jack came to mind and so I dove right it.  I am going to do a step-by-step on how I did the design tomorrow – so if you want to do something like this, please come back and read how I did it and the mistakes I made along the way.

Here’s some after photos…

Favorite Projects and Blog Posts from the Past Year

Hello everyone!  I hope that you are all enjoying your holidays and some much needed time off.  I thought I would have some down time – but, as usual, a few clients need my help before the New Year.  I don’t know why this happens to me every year – but it does!  Not complaining at all…but I was looking forward to some rest.  Yesterday I finished a logo on a gym floor (oh my aching knees and back) and tomorrow I am helping a client move into a new home.  I had a few minutes, so I thought I’d share my most popular posts…in case you might have missed a few!  Happy Holidays and a very prosperous New Year to you all!!
