Reviving Brown Cabinetry with Paint

painted white laundry room cabinets

A Beautiful White Laundry Room…goes from Dark Brown to White   I recently helped a client revamp her Laundry Room. Her dark brown cabinets were getting her down and she needed a change. White cabinetry was the answer – Annie Sloan Pure White Chalk Paint was the tool. It’s so important to make our more utilitarian spaces look beautiful and fun to be in. Most of us forget that (me included). When a room we … Continue reading

July 4th: History, Fun, Family and Some Recipes

a Fourth of July trifle from the Kitchn

“All great change in America begins at the dinner table.” – Ronald Reagan. So why not at our own dinner tables…on July 4th especially?  Do we really instill the reasons why we celebrate the 4th? We need to – more and more. Our family had its share of political talks but also of the reasons why we wanted our freedom – and why this is so important. But, of course, the celebratory part took over.  I … Continue reading

Miss Mustardseed’s Flow Blue Milk Paint: A Before and After Chair

I don’t know why it took me so long to try out Marian Parson’s Milk Paint – but I finally did and I loved it.  I’m not the world’s biggest “blue” fan but because Marian uses it so effectively in her home and her Milk Paint colors are so beautiful (especially this blue!), I figured I would try to learn to love blue!   Sorry for the blurry “before” pic, but here’s the sorry little … Continue reading

Some Verdigris and Rust to Antique Contemporary Vases

I have to apologize for being away from my blog for awhile – I have been so busy with work that I am exhausted by the time I get home.  I know – no excuses –  but I will have so much to blog about very soon.  I have been hard at work on a restaurant that will be opening in May.  It’s coming out so beautiful – I can’t wait to post the “after” … Continue reading

Some Sunny Shots for a Snowy Day

I am doing some armchair gardening today because we had snow on the ground this morning – and I felt like giving myself a break from winter. I took all of these photos last fall in the dahlia garden at the Bayard Cutting Arboretum near my home. I was supposed to enter a few of these pictures in the yearly contest that the Long Island Dahlia Society holds every year – but I missed it … Continue reading

Favorite Projects and Blog Posts from the Past Year

Hello everyone!  I hope that you are all enjoying your holidays and some much needed time off.  I thought I would have some down time – but, as usual, a few clients need my help before the New Year.  I don’t know why this happens to me every year – but it does!  Not complaining at all…but I was looking forward to some rest.  Yesterday I finished a logo on a gym floor (oh my … Continue reading

Color Roundup: Using Sky Blue in Interior Design

Since it’s Christmas time, I thought I would start this Color Roundup with a very pretty sky blue room with a lovely flocked tree and white and silver decorations.  When you have pale walls and cream furnishings, it’s best to color coordinate your tree to your decor – instead of going with red and green.  Your tree and decorations will then flow with your surroundings.  Adding natural elements, like greenery, can be added on … Continue reading

A Merry Swedish Mora Clock Christmas

Every Christmas I always want to do something special with my entry – but I have such trouble with it.  It’s small, it’s oddly shaped and the most special item I have in there is my Swedish clock. Anyway, while perusing Pinterest this morning I came across a Mora clock that was decorated with mostly just evergreens on the top. Here’s our clock “Before.” After! I had plenty of greens, so I went to … Continue reading

The World is Praying for You

Since the tragedy in Newtown CT, I’ve had a hard time focusing and working. So, instead of doing the Color Roundup today, I just wanted to take some time here on the blog to honor the victims and to pray for the families. I cannot imagine the depth of the parents’ grief and I pray that they can somehow get through this horrible time. I hope that this sends a big message to our … Continue reading
